Sokoto State Community Guard Committee Chairman Resigns

The Sokoto State Community Guard Establishment Committee Chairman, Col. Garba Moyi (rtd), has voluntarily resigned from his position.

Col. Moyi (rtd) announced his resignation while addressing journalists at Press Centre in Sokoto State, North West Nigeria.

He said the resignation came in response to an alleged malicious campaign aimed at tarnishing his integrity in the state.

According to him, his background included dedicated and selfless service to the nation, having retired as Colonel in the Nigerian Army.

He added that after his retirement, he joined politics where he was elected as his local government Chairman, Isah local government area of the state.

My commitment as a retired Nigerian Army officer who joined politics to the welfare of my people was a clear testimony that led to my appointment as Commissioner for security by immediate past administration of the state, where I voluntarily resign my position toward end of the tenure.

 “However, owing to my unwavering dedication to enhancing the state’s security framework, the current government appointed me to lead a committee of the proposed establishment of community guard corps in the state.

 “I am pleased to inform the general public that I have decided to resign voluntarily on personal ground, with the aim of promoting peace and unity in the state,” he noted.

Col. Moyi (rtd) expressed his appreciation to Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto state for finding him worthy of such responsibility.

It could be recalled that the Sokoto State Government has set up a committee saddled with the responsibility of advising on modalities for establishment, recruitment and training of security guards in the state.

Colonel Garba Moyi retired was appointed as Chairman and the committee was inaugurated by Governor Ahmed Aliyu last week.
