Sokoto State government constructs 3 Million litres Semi-urban water scheme

The Sokoto State Government has constructed 1.5 million litres of Semi Urban Water Scheme each in Goronyo and Wurno Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the State.

 

Chairmen of the local government councils showcased the projects to team of Nigerian Union of Journalists members who were on tour to the two areas organised by the People’s Democratic Party, PDP campaign council in Sokoto State.

 

In Goronyo LGA, the Chairman of the Council, Hon. Abdulwahab Yahaya, said the water project was provided by the state government and connected across all the communities to ease water supply in the area.

 

“The semi Urban Water project was executed by the state government to ease water supply in Goronyo. The project is supplying over five hundred litres of water for consumption every day, but due to cost and shortage of diesel, the production capacity has reduced drastically,” he said.

 

He added that the state government had also executed erosion control projects which enhanced farming activities through embankment of 7km area from Goronyo to Bare village at the cost of N38 million.

 

According to him, 2 blocks of six classrooms and office of Headmaster in Nana Aisha Islamiyya were constructed by the local government at the cost of N8.6 million to enhance women and girls Islamic education.

 

He however noted that the state government had also renovated and upgraded Central Juma’at Mosque in Goronyo, including renovation of one block of 3 classrooms with two offices at Government Secondary School, Goronyo.

 

The Chairman explained that the state government is also constructing a 10 km road that links Goronyo to Illela local government among other projects.

 

In Wurno local government, the Chairman of the Council, Abubakar Arzika, said 1.5 million litres of Semi Urban Water Scheme was constructed by the state government to provide potable drinking water among the Communities.

 

He further noted that the state government constructed and furnished one storey building of 8 classrooms including renovation of 5 blocks of 3 classrooms at Government Secondary School Wurno.

 

In Rabah local government, the Chairman of the Council, Yahaya Abdullahi Gandi, said there was total renovation of Gamji Girls College which activities of bandits prevent students from enjoying the project.

 

He explained that the state government had also constructed 7 km township road that connects most communities in the area Council.

 

He however noted that there was total renovation of General Hospital Rabah by the state government and construction of new Veterinary Clinic by Local Government administration and among other projects.

 

The three local government Chairmen commended Sokoto State Government under the leadership of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for fulfilling his campaign promises during the 2019 general elections.

 

They urged the communities to take full ownership of the projects for their overall sustainable development.
