Sokoto State Launches 3rd Phase of Artificial Insemination Programme

The Sokoto State Government through the Ministry of Animal Health and Fisheries Development has launched the 3rd Phase of the Artificial Insemination Programme to continue to improve livestock production across 23 local government areas of the state.
Flagging off the programme, the Commissioner, Ministry of Animal Health and Fisheries Development, Professor Abdulkadir Junaid, said successes recorded from phases 1 and 2 of the programme enable the government to continue with 3rd phase.
Junaid said the Artificial Insemination Programme has improved economic status of many livestock farmers and pastoralists in the state.
“The programme has yielded lots of achievements by improving the livestock sub-sector performance, especially by the results of phases one and two of Artificial Insemination.
“A cattle producing 3 litres now produce 7 to 8 litres of milk and this signifies tremendous improvement of our indigenous Sokoto Gudale,” Professor Junaid said.
Represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Usman Almustapha, the Commissioner added that the programme was in line with the National Livestock Transformation Plan by President Muhammad Buhari’s diversification agenda.
Commendation
He commended Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for his support and cooperation towards achieving a lot not only in the programme, but in many livestock sectors.
The Commissioner explained that the State’s livestock sector has witnessed tremendous growth.
Professor Junaid used the opportunity and called on livestock farmers and pastoralists in the state who are interested to contact the Ministry so they could benefit from the programme.
The farms that benefited from the third phase of the programme were Shafi’u Hamza Tsamiya Farms Limited and Abarta Farms Limited all within Wamakko local government area in Sokoto State.
The event was witnessed by Director Veterinary Services of the Ministry, Dr Adamu Abdullahi, Veterinary Doctors in the Ministry, among others.
