Sokoto State Partners NGO To Provide Free Eye Screening, Glasses

The Sokoto state government under it’s Eye Care Program in collaboration with a Non-governmental organisation Sight Savers International has set to provide free eye care services and other medication to people across the the state.

State Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, stated this when she flagged off the excercise as part of activity marking 2023 World Sight Day in Sokoto.

 

 

Hajiya Asabe commended the organisers of the exercise, shortly after her eyes was screened by the state Opthalmologists providing the services in celebrating the this year world Sight Day.

 

 

She assured the Program Managers and the people continued support of the government under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Aliyu towards effective healthcare services delivery.

 

 

She further urged people to always be conscious with contact of their eyes especially by using their hands and other means, because prevention is better than cure.

 

The Commissioner noted that, the government is planning to ensure adequate capacity building and scale up provision of Eye Care Services delivery across all public health facilities in the State.

 

Earlier, the program manager State Eye Care Program, Dr Bello Ahmad, said the aim of celebrating the world Sight Day is to create more awareness on ways to employ to prevent eyes diseases.

 

He added that the day was set aside by United Nations to be celebrated in order to promote Eye health, Advocate for eye Care as well as to provide free eye glasses and medication to patients.

 

Highlight of the celebration include: free eye check ups, provision of free eye glasses to patients and the screening was conducted with participants from Ministry of Health, State Ministry of Health Affairs among others.

 

The theme of 2023 World Sight Day is “Love your eyes at work”.
