The Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State Southeast Nigeria, Dr Kelechi Igwe says the state is set to give energy through solar grid to 140 autonomous communities in the State.

Dr Igwe stated this during the stakeholders meeting in Abakaliki, the state capital.

He urged Ebonyi communities to embrace the gesture from the federal government in order to electrify the rural areas.

“Any moment from now, electricity will be in every community in Ebonyi State at low cost. 50,637,000 households are going to benefit from the energy supply.

It is going to create employment for our youths and this movement by Federal Government to bring solar grid to our communities means that solar energy is no longer for the rich”, the Deputy Governor said.

He called on people of Ebonyi to secure the electricity equipment when it finally arrives in their communities.

The state acting Commissioner for Power, Engr Godwin Nwankwo said the projects would be anchored by Central Bank of Nigeria CBN.

“The solar grid would bring about many benefits ranging from uninterrupted power supply and economic enhancement in the State”, he said.

He advised each community to provide enough space for the project.

The Commissioner said the projects would be installed in clusters in the area where people are living in a scattered form.
