South-South APC leaders Garner Support for President Tinubu

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu and prominent stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC from the south-south region of Nigeria, have drummed support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The stakeholders, who made the call at the conclusion of a one-day APC zonal meeting in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, passed a vote of confidence on President Tinubu.

The 170 delegates, in a communique presented by the Zonal Vice Chairman of the Party, Mr. Victor Giadom, highlighted the strategic decisions of the President aimed at revitalising Nigeria’s economy and instilling hope among its people and investors.

The south-south stalwarts committed to bolstering the party’s influence in the region, starting with a victory at the upcoming governorship election slated for September this year in Edo state.

Giadom read: “It is imperative for the APC to regain control of the government in Edo State and to expand its membership within the region to provide unwavering support to President Tinubu, both presently and during the 2027 general election when he seeks re-election for a second term.”

The delegates also appointed Governor Bassey Otu was as the coordinator of the APC in the zone, tasked with leading reconciliation efforts to reunite disaffected members.

Attracting States

Earlier, Governor Otu emphasised the importance of attracting more states to the APC to reinforce the political environment within the party.

Otu solicited increased federal appointments as reward for dedicated party members, and appreciated Tinubu for ongoing projects including the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway.

Otu emphasised that such “infrastructural development would enhance socio-economic ties between the south west and south-south regions of Nigeria.”

He asserted that the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State would be walk over and advised stakeholders to leverage on the winning strategy encapsulated in the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda of the Tinubu-led administration, to achieve victory.

Also, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, acknowledged President Tinubu’s commitment to the zone, notably through the initiation of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Project.

He said the zonal meeting was an occasion to celebrate the significant contributions of APC stakeholders in the region to the emergence of the Tinubu-led administration.

He described his office as Senate President as a God given opportunity to further integrate the region with the central government, urging party members to continue supporting the government and strive to expand the party’s influence throughout the zone.

The APC south south meeting was attended by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, the former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, the former Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba; APC’s gubernatorial candidate in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo as well as party executives from all states in the region.
