Speaker Abbas condemns killings in Plateau State

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has condemned in totality, the attacks on communities within Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State on Christmas Eve.

Speaker Abbas, who described the attack as barbaric and heinous, said the deaths were “too many,” especially at this time.

He noted with concern the trend of attacks by gunmen, bandits and other criminals, who kill innocent Nigerians.

The Speaker urged the security and intelligence agencies to forestall further loss of lives and property on the Plateau and other parts of the country. He also charged them to go after the perpetrators of the dastardly act, apprehend and prosecute them.

“Nigeria has recorded too many losses of lives and property under attacks, and this trend must stop forthwith,” Speaker Abbas stated.

The Speaker, while commiserating with the people and the Government of Plateau State, prayed for the repose of the souls of those who were killed, and comfort for their families.

Meanwhile, the Speaker also congratulated the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, as he clocks 70 on Wednesday.

Describing the SGF’s 70 years on earth as impactful, the Speaker noted with delight how Senator Akume uses his God-given talent to provide good leadership to the admiration of all.

The Speaker said Senator Akume is among a few Nigerians who have been privileged to serve in the executive and legislative arms of the government at the state and federal levels.

Speaker Abbas recalled how Senator Akume was Governor of Benue State for two terms, Senator of the Federal Republic for three terms, a minister under the immediate past administration of Muhammadu Buhari and currently the SGF under the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.

He said the SGF has distinguished himself as an astute politician and a democrat who has nurtured other politicians over the years.

The Speaker prayed to God to make Senator Akume live more years on earth in good health and service to his fatherland.

Similarly, he rejoiced with the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, as he clocks 64 today.

Speaker Abbas, in his birthday message to the Governor, said the Governor had put his expertise and experience in the private sector to bear in the administration of Nasarawa State.

The Speaker described him as an engineer and businessman-turned politician, as one of the intellectuals in the ruling party.

He wished Governor Sule a long life in good health and blessings.
