Speaker commends contributions of Nigerians in Diaspora

Nigeria’s Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has commended the contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora, noting their role in promoting positive international relations.

He gave the commendation at the inauguration ceremony of Lord Mayor Abigail Marshall-Katung of the Leeds City Council in the United Kingdom.

The Speaker, while emphasizing the importance of international cooperation and the shared values between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, highlighted the significance of such events in strengthening diplomatic and cultural ties.

The ceremony, which was held at the Leeds Civic Hall, marked an important milestone for Lord Mayor Marshall-Katung, the first African woman to hold the office in Leeds.

Her inauguration celebrated not only her achievements but also the growing diversity and multiculturalism within the city.

Present at the event were members of the Nigerian Senate and House of Representatives, former Speaker Yakubu Dogara, and the former Governor of Gombe State, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.

A member of the House of Reps, Ali Isa JC praised the efforts of Mayor Marshall-Katung in fostering inclusivity and unity within Leeds.

According to him, “the Nigerian delegation’s participation in the inauguration of Lord Mayor Abigail Marshall-Katung was a testament to the enduring friendship and partnership between the two nations.”
