Speaker, House of Reps targets empowering youths

Speaker of the House of Representatives Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila says the 9th National Assembly’s target is to empower youth and will do everything to support them.

Gbajabiamila made the statement in Lagos, while speaking at the empowerment program organised for the people of Surulere 1 federal constituency.

 

No less than 5,000 constituents benefited from the empowerment program with 351 tertiary institutions obtaining educational grants between N20,000 and N80,000.

laptops were also distributed to 1,020 teachers in the constituency, while 1,596 small business owners received cash grants of between N50,000 and N150,000.

No less than 120 cars were donated to residents of the area, while the police stations, the University Teaching Hospital of Lagos and the community hospitals of Surulere received patrol cars and ambulances.

The speaker said that the country is blessed with young people who have great potential. He promised that the 9th National Assembly would do its best to create the right environment for them to thrive.

“Nigeria is blessed with so much young potential, young men and women who have the ability, the knowledge, the know-how, the drive, the sincerity of purpose but sadly not yet endowed to thrive.

“Today I promise you and I give you my solemn word that those of us in the ninth assembly will continue to do what we can, whenever, wherever, as we can to make sure that these boys and girls, whom we call the elders tomorrow, in fact , they are given a seat at the table and maybe one day, they sit at the head of the table,” he said.

The speaker also said that the 9th assembly is passionate about the country’s development and will continue to work hard for the nation’s progress.

The speaker said that the empowerment program was in gratitude for the constant support given to her electoral promise to impact the people of the area.

He promised to always work for the good of the people in the constituency and bring more dividends of democracy to the people.

The speaker added that his interventions in education in the area are due to his passion for education and the future of the country.

He thanked Governor Babajide Sanwoolu for providing determined leadership in the state and positively impacting the people of the state.

The speaker also thanked the president of the Congress of All Progressives in the state, Mr. Cornelius Ojelabi for his constant support and guidance to the party in the state.

Speaking, a former Nigerian ambassador to Ghana, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, described Gbajabiamila as an exceptional politician and a worthy representative of the people.

Obanikoro said that Gbajabiamila had performed remarkably well as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

He has done well and I congratulate him. This is a speaker who is not only doing well in the national assembly, but also doing extremely well for the people.

“I am proud of him and ready to support him wherever he goes,” he said.

In a speech, Ojelabi described Gbajabiamila as a great party ambassador who had made the party proud in the state.

He said that the speaker had redefined representation and leadership with his excellent performance in the House of Representatives and support for his constituents.

“You have done well for the people of Surulere and Lagos in general, and for that I say thank you and that the party is proud of you,” he said.
