Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament congratulates Muslims on Eid al-Fitr

The Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Sidie Mohamed Tunis has congratulated Muslims around the West African region and the world celebrating Eid al-Fitr

Tunis also extended his“Warmest wishes and that of the entire ECOWAS Parliament to all Muslims celebrating Eid al-Fitr.

In a statement issued by the Communications Office of the Community Parliament, the Speaker observed that “While Eid marks the end of Ramadan, it also marks a new beginning in the lives of each individual”.

According to him, the occasion is; “A beginning of commitment in the exercise of faith, which is reflected in our communal relationships with one another and our brothers and sisters of other faith.

“Eid celebration also provides an opportunity to appreciate the rich diversity of our traditions, local attires and decorations and the abundance of delectable food and aromatic cuisines that are spread across millions of tables in homes. 

”While at the same time it brings us face to face with the harsh reality of many others who are stricken by poverty and displaced by acts of war and insecurity. 

“It is a time of deep reflection and renewed commitment that each of us, in whatever way, should extend love and care to the downtrodden and take steps to make our world a better, safer and peaceful place.

“As we have exercised obedience to the teachings of Allah, I pray that the beauty of Ramadan touches the deepest cores of our hearts and brings about increase in our good deeds, which will ultimately bring peace and happiness to our region and the world. I pray we each see religious intolerance, terrorism, extremism, poverty, democratic instability and lack of respect for constituted authorities as vices that make our world unsafe and increase hardship and suffering.

“May Almighty Allah, after this long period of fasting and sacrifices, appreciate our obedience, answer our prayers and bestow His Mercies and Blessings upon mankind.

Eid al-Fitr is a religious festival for all Muslims around the world which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and is Allah’s reward for believers who fasted during the holy month of Ramadan.
