Sports Festival: Niger State Receives National Unity Touch

The Niger State Government have received the National Unity Torch ahead of the 22nd National Sports Festival scheduled for May 16th – 30th, in Abeokuta.

The National Unity Torch is currently on tour of the 36 states of the federation. It is a traditional routine, symbolising unity and inviting states to participate in the festival.

State Governor Umaru Bago, who was represented by his Deputy, Yakubu Garba, reiterated the significant role of sports in nation building.

The Governor reiterated that sports was a pivotal tool for unity and development and assured that the Niger contingent to the sport festival would return home with laurels.

He promised that the state government would provide necessary support for Team Niger to emerge victorious.

Leader of the team and member staff of the National Sports Commission, Ikana Mbora, confirmed that all necessary measures had been put in place to ensure a successful event.

In his remarks, Nuhu Ngaski, the Permanent Secretary in the State’s Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, disclosed that Team Niger had already won two team sports at the zonal elimination stage.

Ngaski said the team would participate in 16 individual sports, including shooting as a new sport.
