National Youth Service Corps Members (NYSC ) in Nigeria have been commended for their impressive performances at the just-concluded 2021 NYSC Sports and Cultural annual Festival competition.

NYSC  Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, gave the commendation at the training ground of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The Director-General, who was represented by Mrs. Christy Uba, Director, ICT, said his assessment of the quality of performance was very high.

According to him, “The corps members have shown commitment and the zeal to win, especially the goalkeepers and the defenders. They performed very well. And the two teams that played the finals, that is, Anambra and Ekiti states, really worked hard to justify what they got.

“Many of the players are potential stars, even those that participated at the track events. Their performances showed that they will go a long way,” he said, adding that, that was one of the reasons for the sports festival, and that talent hunters would get some of them.

Former International and Special Adviser to President Buhari on Sports Development, Daniel Amokachi performed the ceremonial kick-off of the finial match between Ekiti and Anambra states.

He said: “Football is a religion in Nigeria. Everybody loves to play football. And you can see from the semifinal to the finals that, there are positives. Like I always told players that there is no bad player, it depends on what the coach needs to fortify the formation that he wants to play.”
