Nigeria’s Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare has showered encomiums on FAME, Foundation, for its unflinching dedication to the promotion of the cause of women and girls in Nigeria and Africa.
FAME Foundation is a gender-based Non-governmental organization which has since its inception, put smiles on the faces of women in Nigeria and Africa.
One of the activities of FAME Foundation, is the annual International Women’s Day Football Tournament, an activity that gives hope to young girls and helps in reshaping their lives for the better.
As the Guest of honour, at this year’s event, the Sports minister on Wednesday applauded the foundation for leading the cause of women in Nigeria.
‘We have been watching closely, the effort of FAME Foundation in the last five years, and I am glad that it’s paying off. We can all see that the enthusiasm displayed here is massive and commendable.
“I want to use this medium to call on other NGOs to take the cue from the FAME Foundation, in championing the cause of women,” the Minister said.
Dare happily recalled how under his watch as Minister of Sports, women have done exceptionally well in terms of bringing lots of laurels and international recognition to the country.
Most recent was their exploits at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where all the 12 Gold medals won by Team Nigeria were won by women as Nigeria recorded her best performance ever at the quadrennial games.

Nigeria also recorded her best Olympic Games performance in 13 years at the Tokyo 2020 Games with Blessing Oborodudu (Wrestling) and Ese Brume (Long Jump) putting smiles on the faces of Nigerians by winning silver and bronze medals.
Equality and Justice
In her remarks, the Founder of FAME Foundation, Aderonke Ogunleye Bello said it is highly gratifying to be able to put smiles on the faces of many Nigerians and promised not to relent in fighting for equality and justice, especially for women and girls.
She also urged other stakeholders to do more, by channelling more energy and resources towards initiatives that will better empower, and chart a way forward on issues affecting women.
March 8th every year, is a date set aside by the United Nations as International Women’s Day. The day is observed worldwide and celebrates women’s social, economic, cultural and political achievements.
It is also a date set aside to make advocacy for accelerated action on gender parity, women’s achievement, and support for women, in all ramifications.
