Stakeholders Call For Reawakening Of Reading Culture

The need to reawaken the dying reading culture among Nigerian youths has been re-emphasised.

 

A Nigerian International Author, Dr. Ifeanyi Uba made this known in Lagos during the official launch of his book titled ‘The Undergraduate’.

 

Dr. Uba who decried the rate at which internet has taken the attention of the youths from reading said that urgent attention is needed both from the government, parents and educators to help change the ugly trend.

 

”A lot of young people are not willing to read to better theselves, they are not also ready to work to better their lives. If it’s not a thirty second video where somebody is taking his clothes off, then they’re not interested. These are the people that the country will be handed over to. We really need to pray an encourage our youths,” he stated.

 

The Chief Executive Officer of Seeds of Greatness Institute, Anayo Agu called on the government and well meaning Nigerians to join hands to revamp the country’s educational system.

 

According to him, the economy of the country will continue to dwindle until education is taken as number one priority.

 

Our educational standard has dipped. The several months strike the lecturers were out of school. It will be good to insentify those that are interested in literary work so that others will be encouraged.” He reiterated.

 

An educationist, Iyke Ijomah wants the government to give more attention to the welfare of teachers and lecturers to encourage them to do more.

 

Government should make the environment more conducive for both students and those that teach them,” he stated.

 

The book ‘The Undergraduate‘ is a fiction written in a first person narrative style which the authour used to share his experience and lessons on what a young undergraduate should avoid and the ones they should absorb.

 

It has twenty chapters and two hundred and seventy three pages.
