The Lagos State Government has received commendations for its consistent support towards uplifting people with disability through various human-centric initiatives in the past years.

Speaking at a-get-together/end of the year party held at Abayomi Finnih Recreational Park, Oregun, Lagos, some of the stakeholders appreciated the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs, LASODA for being supportive to the PWDs.

The event was organised in honour of children with special needs as well as, caregivers, organisations and individuals taking responsibility of the wellbeing of the children,

The Founder, Balm of Gilead, Mrs Bisola Idowu, thanked LASODA for the unwavering commitment at ensuring individuals with disabilities had adequate care with various initiatives that were carried out all through the year.

She said; “We are indeed grateful for LASODA and Lagos State government for their gestures in the last 12 months to ensure that the needs of homes managing these children are catered for. It shows they take priority of our needs and have been consistent in that regard. We thank them and as we move into the new year, we look forward to more support. And as a result of the economic challenges, many parents of children with special needs are facing a lot at the moment, so if centres, homes and schools in Lagos have the support of Lagos State, it will make our work to be easier to give more meaningful lives for the children.”

Others at the event also appreciated the government for being proactive in the engagement with the stakeholders and for promoting social inclusion as well as the welfare of Persons with Disabilities, through the THEMES Plus agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s led administration.

Celebrating passion

The General Manager of LASODA, Mrs Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal expressed the commitment of the agency to continue to prioritise the needs of the PWDs in the state in the new year.

Oyetunde who was represented by the Director, Admin and Human Resources, Mrs Omolade Sonubi, said the programme was aimed at celebrating the dexterity and passion that most of the centres, homes and caregivers have dissipated in the last 12 months and to also celebrate the children to enjoy a fun-filled atmosphere at the end of the year.

According to her “It has been a wonderful year and we are happy to have parents, caregivers, organisations and guardians here to celebrate with our children. I know how it has been taking care of the children with special needs, we can only give all the adoration to God. Today, we have gift items for the children, let them have fun and for everyone to thank God for what He has done in our lives.”

The programme featured talks, dance and performances from different homes.
