Stakeholders Seek Collaborative Effort To Curb Insecurity In Nigeria

Stakeholders in Nigeria have called for collaborative efforts and immediate action from federal and state governments to curb the menace of insecurity in the Southeast and the nation in general.
They made the call in a two-day southeast peace summit held in Awka, Anambra State.
The event was organised by the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC), in partnership with Action Group on Free Civic Space (AGFCS).
Presenting his keynote address and stating the objective,
Okechukwu Nwanguma, stated that, “This summit is convened for critical Stakeholders to gain deeper insight into the root of insecurity and the risk factors for its persistence, its dimensions and drivers and to jointly propose workable recommendations for ending insecurity and addressing human rights violations and shrinking civic space”.
The Executive Director RULAAC, said, “The now routine sit at home has ruined the economy of the South-East and worsened the plight of the toiling people most of whom depend on daily earnings. Rural poverty and misery have increased.He appreciated the government for their efforts and beckoned on them to do more.
“We commend the Anambra State govenor for establishment of a bureau of missing persons. This attitude is worthy of emulation
“We plan, among other considerations, to file legal action against human rights violators in the Southeast”.
“With the information and evidence from testimonies, we also intend to assist the the most vulnerable and most affected victims to seek legal redress”, he stated.
Nwanguma affirmed that RULAAC is aimed at promoting police-community partnership and access to justice for the most vulnerable.
He further commended an eminent Professor of human rights law, Professor Chidi Odinkalu who called for unism in combating insecurity, for his support and inspiration and for his unrivaled and exemplary commitment and selfless contributions towards a better Nigeria.
Other speakers at the event were, Chibundu Uchegbu, Emmanuel Acha, Nelson Nwafor all representatives of Civil Society Organisations from Abia, Imo, Enugu and Anambra states, including Prince Chris Azor.
