Concerned Stakeholders in the Kano state Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA), in North West Nigeria, have dragged the leadership to court demanding fresh elections.
The concerned stakeholders who spoke through their Chairman, Abdulaziz Sabitu Mohammed at a press conference in Kano, demanded the court to sack the leadership of the chamber and order a fresh election.
Mohammed alleged that the current leadership was imposed on registered members at the detriment of the chamber.
He however, called on the national body,  the National Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, NACCIMA, Kano State government not to recognise the persons parading themselves as council members.
According to him, “the Concerned Stakeholders of KACCIMA, driven by patriotic zeal and the quest to bring sanity, order, and progress to the Chamber, prompted us to institute a legal action against the purported Council members of our esteemed Chamber.
“We therefore wish to categorically state that we do not intend to blackmail or witch hunt anybody but we are determined to salvage and rescue our dear Chamber for the progress and betterment of all. We hope that our judiciary will see merit in our petition,” he said.
He added that, “We are here this afternoon to bring to the notice of the local and International partners of KACCIMA, the prevailing happenings in the organization, especially as it concerns the self-seeking, and unholy activities of the illegal Council who are parading themselves as the Council Members without any election. Unfortunately many of them are not registered members and/or financial members.
“The public should be aware and not deal with them or give them any recognition. The Concerned Members are currently taking legal steps to address the disturbing and unfortunate act of these self-seeking individuals. We want to call specifically, the National Body (NACCIMA) and regional body (CONSCCIMA) not to recognise these self-seeking individuals, parading themselves as Council Members, who are already restrained from taking any steps and to also make sure to supervise and see to the credible elections of the Council Members, who will pilot the affairs of the KACCIMA.
“We also call on Kano State Government and Ministry of Commerce, not to deal with these illegal Council members.
“You would all recall that on the 2nd August 2023, KACCIMA was to hold its Extra-Ordinary General Meeting (EGM) as per Court Judgment with Suit No. FHC/KN/CS/115/2023 dated Friday 21st July, 2023 which was to pave way for the election of a new set of leaders for the Chamber but was unable to hold due to irreconcilable differences, relating to the conduct of the election.
“Consequently, they nominated themselves and ascribe positions to themselves selfishly many of whom unfortunately are members of the Electoral Committee of the failed EGM and to serve for the period of 3 years which is against the KACCIMA MEMART which stipulates a 2year term.
“However, when the members of this purported present Council were constituted, several anomalies were observed,
“The first anomaly …was that some of those selected for the task were not members of KACCIMA while some were not financial members as stipulated in Section 10 of the Memorandum and Article of Association establishing the body, and the third anomaly was the selection process that produced the Council members which was also done in violation of a Subsisting Court Judgment, as well as, in violation of the CAMA Act 2020,” the Chairman, Concerned stakeholders, Mohammed explained.
