Stakeholders in the Education Sector are converging in Yola, the Adamawa State capital to brainstorm on how to strengthen security in Nigerian schools.
The theme of the session is ‘Strengthening of Security and Safety in Nigerian Schools for the Achievement of Education 2030 Agenda.’’
The Adamawa State Governor, Umaru Fintiri appreciated the 81st conference of the Joint Consultative Committee on Education in the state.
He said the focus of the conference was apt, at a time when the country’s school system is endangered due to the fear of an unsafe learning environment.
“Parents and guardians are worried over the plight of their children in schools due to the fear of unsafe learning environment; even the children are perpetually enveloped by apprehension attendant upon by daily tale of insecurity in the land; no doubt, a forum for charting the cause for strengthening the security and safety of our schools is an opportunity we must take serious especially if we are to achieve the country’s Education 2030 Agenda”, the Governor said.
Governor Fintiri said; “As a government, we have long realised how important it is to reposition our entire school system in Adamawa State. For us, there’s direct correlation between a safe, secure and conducive learning environment and an efficient education system and human capital development which occupies a central place in our 11 Point Agenda.”
According to him while the general security of lives and property of all Adamawa Citizens remains his number one priority, more important is the security of the schools that hatches the younger ones to take up the task of nation building.
“It is indeed our duty to ensure that no life is lost while teaching or learning and no teaching or learning process is impaired due to psychological upset imposed by fear,” he stated.
Participants at the event said Government must carry on the responsibilities of the provision of the required infrastructure, the concerted effort of school managers, facilitators, teachers, administrators, role models, parents, and guardians is needed to play vital roles responsibly.
Many of them who spoke to Voice of Nigeria are optimistic that deliberations at the one-week conference which started on Monday would be fruitful in charting a more productive cause for a safe school system.
They also called for an ingenious process for a conducive learning environment that would reform the education sector in Nigeria.
