Stakeholders across the country have been urged to close ranks towards achieving zero levels of gender-based violence, especially against women and children.

Nasarawa State Chairperson of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Hadiza Umar, made the call when she led members of the Association on a courtesy visit to the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Labaran Magaji in Lafia.

Umar said “the call became necessary owing to the increasing rate of gender-based violence among women and girls.”

The NAWOJ Chairperson appealed to the Ministry of Justice to ensure that perpetrators of gender-based violence are brought to the book to serve as deterrents to others.

Responding, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Labaran Magaji commended the NAWOJ members for their untiring efforts, promising to partner with the association to achieve its zero gender violence drive among women and girls in the state.

NAWOJ delegation also visited Habo Orphanage home where it donated food items and toiletries to the children to reduce their sufferings occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.

Founder of the Orphanage home, Mrs Helen Bala thanked NAWOJ for the humanitarian gesture, calling on other wealthy and spirited individuals to emulate the humanitarian gesture of Women Journalists in the state.
