The management of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, has clarified that students of public Tertiary Institutions operated by state governments across the country are the core part of those to benefit from the about-to-be-launched non-interest student loan Scheme.

The Media and Public Relations of NELFUND, Nasir Ayitogo in a statement noted that the clarification became necessary due to misleading narratives on social media claiming that the student loan programme is solely for federal institutions.

“NELFUND categorically states that this information is incorrect. “State institutions are unequivocally by law included in our student loan programme. The programme is designed to roll out in phases to ensure effective and efficient management of the process.

“The first phase for a start will focus on students attending federal institutions.
“The second phase, which will be launched shortly after the initial rollout, will extend the programme to students at state institutions,”
he said.

According to him, NELFUND is fully committed to providing financial support to all eligible students, regardless of whether they attend Federal or State tertiary public institutions.

He added that the mission of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is to ensure that all desirous students have access to the financial resources necessary to pursue their educational goals and aspirations.

The portal for the commencement of application for the student loan scheme is scheduled to be opened to the first batch of beneficiaries on Friday the 24th May 2024

The fund had estimated that there would be 1.2 million student beneficiaries across Nigeria.
