The Department of State Services DSS has called on the media as a critical stakeholder in the Nation’s building, to use their platforms to rebuild Nigeria and Preach Unity amongst citizens.

The Services Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya made this known in a press briefing in Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital.

Mr. Afunanya maintained that journalists should ensure that the game is played according to the rules as a political session begins. He emphasised that hate speech, fake news and other activities that could create violence, fear and disunity amongst the citizens should be discouraged.

The image maker lamented that ” the media should be up and doing in restoring and managing Peace in the country because the media is a Pace and Agenda setter.

He reiterated that the Services would continue to discharge its duties creditably to ensure Peace and Stability in the country”.

Afunanya added that the DSS would continue to do what is expected of it by encouraging all stakeholders towards achieving Peace and stability in Nigeria.

“Nigerians must avoid any activity that will promote hate and disintegration, say no to the Separation movement, Terrorism, Fake News, hate speech, religious bigotry and any act that will lead to dividing Nigeria as a nation.

We should all rise and defeat violence, crime and sabotage against the peace of the nation because Nigeria is the only country we have and we must do everything to keep it United”. Afunanya emphasised.

Afunanya further encouraged Nigerians; providing his personal contact details for anyone to reach out to and report any security information to the Services.
