States Judiciary, Legislature Financial autonomy underway- Minister

The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, (SAN) says Financial autonomy of States Judiciary is underway to straightened them for standard Justice system in Nigeria.

Malami stated this when he Commissioned remodelled Sokoto State High Court of Justice by Governor Tambuwal’s administration.

According to him, in march, 2019 President Muhammad Buhari, had inaugurated Presidential implementation committee on autonomy of State Judiciary and State legislature.

“It’s gladdening to note that the outcome of the committee’s work has gained for the country the execution and emergence of Executive Order 10, for the smooth implementation of the financial autonomy of the State level Legislature and Judiciary arms of government,” he said.

Committed government
He said that the administration of President Muhammad Buhari remained committed to ensure Judiciary were protected through promotion of rule of law, principles of check and balances and preservation of principles of separation of powers.

Malami further explained that the present administration also remained committed to provision of improve welfare to Judiciary, to enable them dispense Justice at all times, without fear or favour and in an independent manner.

The Minister commended Governor Tambuwal for rehabilitation of the complex which is among the best in the country.

“I am optimistic that with an ultramodern court complex furnished with state-of-the-art equipment both in the offices and court rooms, the business of Judiciary in Sokoto State in deepening Justice has been given an uplifted booster,” he added.

Political intrusion
The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, said the greatest setback over the years on Judiciary was political intrusion in its affairs by vested interest among the political elites.

”The greatest danger to the independence of Judiciary comes from political interference with the working of the court,” Governor Tambuwal said.

He stated that his administration had never interfered, and would never intrude into court working.

Support for Judiciary
Governor Tambuwal stressed he would support the Judiciary in all it’s ramifications for full coverage independence.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmoud Muhammad, commended Governor Tambuwal for the giant achievement recorded in Judiciary system of Sokoto State.

The Chief Justice who was represented by Justice Amina Augie, assured the State Judiciary of proper support to carryout their constitutional roles effectively.
