The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has underscored the critical role of strategic communication in strengthening transparency and stakeholder confidence across the power sector.

Speaking at the Power Sector Communications Team’s monthly meeting in Abuja, NERC Vice Chairman Musiliu Oseni commended the team for its contributions to shaping public discourse.

He urged members to deepen collaboration and expand strategic initiatives to better serve the industry and its stakeholders.

Oseni highlighted the importance of consistent, coordinated communication in building public trust and ensuring that reforms in the power sector are well understood by Nigerians.

Represented by the Head of Corporate Communications at NERC, Hafsat Mustafa, the Vice-Chairman emphasised the importance of evolving communication approaches to keep pace with sector developments and public expectations.

The PSCT has been instrumental in advancing coherent and coordinated communication across the power sector. However, to meet the growing demands of our stakeholders, we must be more intentional in our initiatives and foster greater synergy among member agencies,” he said

He highlighted the need for consistent and proactive communication efforts that not only inform the public but also build trust and accountability in the sector’s reform process.

Responding on behalf of the team, the Coordinator of the Power Sector Communications Team and Media Team Lead Magdalene Abang,  reaffirmed the group’s dedication to strengthening collaborative efforts and delivering more impactful communication.

We recognise the importance of unified messaging in the power sector. PSCT remains committed to enhancing cross-agency cooperation and driving strategic public engagement that supports sector-wide reforms,” Abang stated.

The meeting also featured updates from various agencies and discussions on improving communication strategies and stakeholder engagement where members reiterated their commitment to sustaining a cohesive communication front that effectively conveys the progress and challenges of Nigeria’s power sector.
