Strike: Kano State Records 80 Percent Compliance

The nationwide strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has recorded about eighty percent compliance in Kano State.

Leader of the Public Sector Enforcement team during the strike in Kano, Ibrahim Maikarfi, revealed this to Voice of Nigeria while leading the enforcement team.

He said the strike has received compliance from workers in Kano, pointing out that organised labour was in full control to enforce the action in the state.

He said, “So far we have about 80 to 90 percent Compliance, as far as I’m concerned, the public Sector have complied. 

“The strike is total and indefinite and untill the Federal Government and the organized Labour come to an agreement.”

Maikarfi called on workers to remain patient and obey the leadership as efforts are ongoing for a favourable agreement on the minimum wage.

Meanwhile, a visit to the Kano State Secretariat indicates that the gates leading in and out of the premises were under lock and key as no civil servant was seen around.

Also, financial institutions have closed for business as only Automated Talker Machines ATMs are accessed by customers.

Public schools were also shut as only private schools opened for studies.
