Student Loan Scheme To Begin With Federal Tertiary Institutions

The long-awaited interest-free Nigerian Student Loan Scheme is set to commence on Friday, May 24th, with the portal opening for eligible beneficiaries to begin their applications.

The Managing Director of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyer made this know at a Pre-Application Sensitisation media briefing in Abuja Nigeria.

Sawyer said only applicants from Federal tertiary institutions which include: Universities, Polytechnic, Colleges of Education, and Technical Colleges would benefit from the first batch of the exercise.

He said; “students totaling 1.2 million across the country who have already been admitted by Institutions will be the beneficiaries.”

For now it is only Federal tertiary institutions that are going to benefit from the loan.”

Sawyer said that those that can benefit are the ones whose institutions have uploaded their data as directed, stressing that many have complied while some are yet to do so.

He urged students to visit the Website www.nelf.gov.ng to apply for the loan beginning on the 24th May 2024.

Sawyer said part of the criteria for filling the form in the portal includes: a Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board JAMB admission letter, a Biometric Verification Number, a BVN and National Identification Number, and a NIN.
