In the series of alleviating the sufferings of the populace in Borno, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, has supervised the distribution of palliatives to the most vulnerable persons in Dikwa local government area.

The Governor was on official visit to Dikwa where he administered the distribution of food and non-food items to the people in the community.

Zulum in an interview said, “We have been distributing palliatives since May 2011 to date because of the insurgency we have been facing, so I will say it is more like a continuation for us.

“We are here in Dikwa and we have identified about 35,000 females including female head of households who will benefit from wrapper and 5000 naira each, while 15 thousand male heads of households were identified and have received 25kg of rice and 25kg of maize respectively.

The Governor stated that as the government provides palliatives to communities, “It is also important to note that distribution of palliatives are not sustainable, they are shorter terms solutions, and therefore government will look for medium and longer term solutions which is to invest in Agriculture, precisely Irrigation.”

He said, “We are here with the Agricultural team we have earmarked 100 hectares of land to be cultivated under irrigation scheme in Dikwa, 50 hectares of land in Gajibo and 50 hectare of land in Gamborun Ngala totalling 200 hectares of land in these communities.

“So that people can be engaged in irrigation activities. We have seen the effect of climate change on our environment, we have been witnessing erratic rainfall pattern, diversity loss, rise in sea level among others.

“My intention is to see how we can invest in Agriculture especially modern agriculture, and luckily enough for us my predecessor had procured agricultural equipments no any state in Nigeria has the type of Agriculture equipment we have so we intend to harness it to the fullest.
