The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ebonyi State chapter has joined its counterparts to enforce the Nationwide Strike to address Nigerians plight due to removal of fuel Subsidy.
The State NLC Chairman, Professor Egwu Oguguo disclosed this while monitoring the level of Compliance across the State, in Abakaliki, the State Capital.
Professor Oguguo emphasized that he is satisfied by the level of Compliance, noting that it was hundred percent.
Oguguo thanked all workers for the much solidarity shown to NLC’s directive.
“Recall that on 2nd August, 2023, we embarked on a nationwide protest march to drive home our demands for the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to address the excruciating sufferings of poor Nigerians including Workers following the unfortunate hike in the price of Premium Motor Spirit PMS.
“More than one month after the protest, the FGN has refused to address any of our demands or even create an avenue for meaningful engagement. This is a case of utter neglect of the Nigerian Workers and the suffering masses.
“To further drive home our demands which are: – FGN taking immediate steps to address the massive suffering unleashed on Nigerians by the hike in the price of PMS; The Nigerian Police Force vacating the headquarters of the NURTW which they have illegally occupied under the instruction of certain forces peddling the name of the President of the Federation; The implementation of a living wage award which is an outcome of the last engagement between the Organized Labour and the President of the Federation. This will be followed by an increase in minimum wage as provided by law; Stakeholders in the aviation sector desisting from violating the rights of Workers to freedom of association and collective bargaining; Compelling the Imo State Government to stop the abuse and violation of rights and privileges of Workers and Trade Unions in the State,” he said.
Consequently upon the foregoing, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Congress declared a two-day warning strike, directing all workers to remain in their homes “and on no occasion shall any Comrade violate this directive of NEC which has been domesticated by a resolution of the State Executive.”
