The Nigerian government will in a few months, distribute gas powered vehicles for public transportation to ease the cost of transportation brought on by fuel subsidy removal.

The National Chairman of Nigeria’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Abdullahi Ganduje stated this when he received a Forum of Directors and Secretaries of the Defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Electioneering Campaign

Senator Ganduje explained that Nigeria’s President has been honest with Nigerians right from the time of his electioneering campaigns with regard to fuel subsidy removal.

He noted that developed nations have gone through similar challenges Nigerians are currently experiencing to get to where they are today.

The APC National chairman said Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu is working on long and short term measures to ease the economic hardship that citizens are currently experiencing due to the rem oval of fuel subsidy.

“Mr President invited all the governors of Nigeria irrespective of political leanings and he pointed out his agenda for immediate relief of the suffering: the medium measure and the long term measure. We are happy that most governors in the federation have taken cue. They have designed their own individual state government palliatives and the Federal government has also provided paliatives. But if you look at it, the short term measure alone is not sustainable, it is the long term measure that is important.

”We believe the salaries of civil servants and public servants is too small even before the removal of palliatives (subsidy). Governments are making efforts to improve salaries. That is a long term effect.

“Since the central issue is petroleum products, now the federal government has gone ahead with discussion for the manufacture and distribution of vehicles that do not use petrol. It is cheaper. In some few months to come, the federal government will distribute vehicles that are using gas” Ganduje said.

The APC National Chairman further explained that there was already a blueprint to develop the rail system across all the regions in Nigeria to improve transportation.
