Sudan Crisis: Borno state indigenes arrive in Maiduguri

The Sudan crisis necessitated the Borno State government under the Ministry of Science Technology and Education to evacuate its indigenes schooling in the country back to Maiduguri, the state capital.

The evacuees arrived at the Maiduguri International Airport on Monday, May 8, 2023.

The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mustapha Malumbe who is part of the evacuation process told newsmen at the Maiduguri Airport immediately after the arrival of the students, that “Governor Zulum set a delegation to partner with Federal government to evacuate Nigerians in Sudan, and although we had a smooth process was smooth, the state government through its coordinator in Khartoum was able to evacuate 106 Borno Indegence to Aswan in Egypt where the Federal government airlifted them to Abuja.

He further stated that, “From Abuja, the Borno State government charted two flight carrying 50 /50 for its indigenes to Maiduguri, among the 106 indigenes 56 are students, and 14 out of the 56 are under the Borno State scholarship scheme”.

The Borno state Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the Borno State government, Njidda Shu’wa received the students and their parents at the government house he said, the Governor sympathize with you over the unfortunate incident saying it deemed it fit for the Borno State government to evacuate its students studying in Sudan to avoid any catastrophe situation, he prayed for normalcy to return to Sudan and encourage the students to be law-abiding in any situation.

On behalf of the students, Muhammad Digol mai kale the president representing the Kanem association for Borno state students in Sudan, thank Governor Zulum for his quick response and support saying they were taken care of and it shows the Borno State government cared for its own, he prayed for the success of the state and government under Governor Babagana Zulum.
