A senior Sudanese military official visited troops at the Republican Palace on Tuesday after the army reclaimed it from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), marking a major victory in the ongoing conflict.

Gen. Yasser Al-Atta, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, inspected the palace and briefed soldiers on the latest developments in the battle against the paramilitary group.

The Sudanese military has tightened its grip on the capital, retaking several strategic locations, including the National Intelligence Service headquarters, the Central Bank of Sudan, and the Corinthia Hotel, according to military spokesperson Brig. Gen. Nabil Abdullah.

The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF erupted in 2023, following years of political instability. Since early 2024, the army, led by Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan, has been making significant advances, reclaiming vital infrastructure across Khartoum.

Despite these gains, the fighting has led to increased civilian casualties, deepening Sudan’s humanitarian crisis.
