Sultan of Sokoto announces commencement of Ramadan

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan in Nigeria.

The announcement was made after confirmation of the new moon sighting from reports received from the National Moon Sighting Committee and other Islamic leaders across the country.

In a statement signed by the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, Muslim faithful are therefore expected to begin fasting 18, feb 2026.

The Sultan called on Muslims to use the holy month to intensify prayers for peace, unity and national development, while also showing kindness, charity and good neighbourliness.
