The Super Eagles of Nigeria have received a significant boost ahead of their crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarterfinal clash against Angola, with goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali returning to training.

Nwabali, 27, had been a doubt for the upcoming encounter after sustaining an injury during the round of 16 match against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

Nigeria’s head coach, Jose Peseiro, gave an update on the situation with the Super Eagle shot-stopper. He remains optimistic about Nwabali’s fitness for the upcoming match.

“We have to wait for a late fitness test today (Thursday), if he is not ready, I have other goalkeepers (Uzoho and Ojo),” Peseiro said.

“I believe and trust all my goalkeepers, if Nwabali is not test fit for the match ahead, I trust Uzoho.”

A recent video shared on NFF TV showed the goalkeeper back in training, actively working towards regaining full fitness for the upcoming clash against Angola.

Nwabali has become an integral part of the Super Eagles with his calmness and confidence in goal. Following a thorough examination by Nigerian doctors and a scan in Ivory Coast, it has been revealed that Nwabali’s injury is not as serious as initially feared.

The return of Nwabali is expected to boost the confidence of the Super Eagles. Having conceded just one goal in four matches, Nwabali’s leadership qualities and on-field presence are crucial for the Nigerian team.

As the Super Eagles aim to secure a spot in the semifinals with victory against Angola, the availability of Nwabali is seen as a welcomed development to boost their chances.
