Super Eagles’ Market Value Rises After Recent Drop
After three consecutive drops, the Super Eagles have seen their squad value rise in the latest transfer market ranking. In January, Nigeria’s national football team was valued at €465.90m, but by July, the value had plummeted to €252m. However, the latest Transfermarkt report shows the Super Eagles’ market value has risen to €281m, securing their spot as the second most valuable team in Africa, just behind Morocco.
The previous drop was largely attributed to the absence of star striker Victor Osimhen, whose €75m market value was missed when Nigeria faced South Africa and Benin in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, managing only one point from two games. Despite Osimhen’s continued absence in the recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya, the return of players like Taiwo Awoniyi, Chidera Ejuke, and the rise in Victor Boniface’s market value helped boost the squad’s total worth.
Boniface is now the Super Eagles’ most valuable player, valued at €45m, surpassing Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, who holds a €40m market value. Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye’s impressive form for Udinese has seen his value rise to €7.5m, making him the most valuable of Nigeria’s goalkeepers.
While Nigeria’s defence still lags behind, with only Calvin Bassey (€16m) and Ola Aina (€12m) reaching significant market values, other key players like Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, and Moses Simon have maintained their previous valuations.
Though still trailing Morocco, who boast a squad value of €325m, the Super Eagles have climbed to 19th in the global rankings, up from 26th in July. Senegal follows closely in third place in Africa with a value of €276m, while England leads the world rankings with a squad value of €1.34bn.
