The Super Eagles of Nigeria have vowed to secure a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite their disappointing performances in the qualifying campaign so far.

Nigeria suffered a huge setback in the qualifiers after losing 2-1 to Benin Republic on Monday at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

The defeat leaves Nigeria in fifth place on three (3) points after four games, while Benin Republic tops of the Group C with seven (7) points courtesy of their win against the Super Eagles.

Reflecting on the defeat, the players said they have discussed among themselves and have resolved to do everything possible to secure the ticket.

“We are back in the country and we are not happy about the way the two games panned out,” the Super Eagles said on social media network X.

“We have had talks among ourselves and have resolved to fight hard till the end to ensure we do the impossible which is qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. We don’t take your support for granted, we thank you immensely.”

The World Cup qualifiers will resume in March 2025 with the Super Eagles of Nigeria taking on Rwanda in Kigali and Zimbabwe in Uyo.
