Reigning Africa Champions, the Nigeria Super Falcons will hope to put an end to South Africa’s Bayana title ambition as they both clash in the second semi-final of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations at the Stade Municipal de Limbe on Tuesday.
Nigeria qualified as group B winner after hammering Mali 6-0 in their opening match, played 1-1 with the Black Queens of Ghana before outscoring Kenya 4-0 in their final group game to finish with seven points.
On the other side, Bayana finished group A second on four points, drawing 0-0 against Zimbabwe, lost 1-0 against hosts Cameroon before beating Egypt 5-0 in their final group encounter.
The two teams are no stranger to each other as they have met eight times, Nigeria winning seven and losing one at the bi-annual tournament against South Africa. Super Falcons only defeat came at the 2012 AWCON semi-final where the team lost 1-0.
The nine-time Africa champions who can boast of lethal strikers such as tournament top scorer, Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie, knows that a win against their perennial rivals would be a perfect way of booking a place in the final of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations against the winner between Cameroon and Ghana on Saturday.
