Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has described the Trans-Saharan Superhighway as a major project capable of enhancing connectivity, unlocking economic opportunities, and boosting regional integration across the region.
Idris stated this while leading a delegation to inspect the ongoing work on the 118km Calabar–Ebonyi section of the Trans-Saharan Superhighway.
The Superhighway, being constructed by Infouest Nigeria Limited for ₦445 billion, features a rigid concrete pavement and will connect Calabar to Ebonyi, Benue, Nasarawa States, and Abuja. The Minister described it as one of the flagship projects under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The construction of the 700-metre, 12-span bridge on the superhighway would address decades-long flooding challenges in the N’dibe Beach area and restore access for affected communities. For the first time, Ebonyi State is hosting multiple major Federal Government projects simultaneously, a testament to the administration’s commitment to equitable development,” Idris said.
Following an inspection of a housing facility aimed at improving lives, the Minister also commended Ebonyi State’s innovative approach to rewarding excellence in public service, describing it as a model of responsive governance.
Idris further praised the state government’s judicious use of funds freed by the removal of fuel subsidy, ensuring they are applied to projects that directly impact citizens.
“This is what a listening government looks like, applying resources to priorities that the people themselves value,” said Idris.
Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, showcased the newly completed Civil Servant Reward Estate, describing it as the first of its kind in South East Nigeria. The estate provides fully built houses at no cost to outstanding teachers, civil servants, and achievers, including a young Afro-basketball star.
“When people serve with dedication, they deserve recognition and reward,” the Governor stated.
The Minister urged contractors to uphold quality and expedite delivery, assuring citizens that the Federal Government remains focused on infrastructure that tangibly improves lives and livelihoods across the country.
