The Supreme Court in Nigeria has delivered its verdict on the gubernatorial elections in Sokoto, Taraba, and Rivers states.

On Sokoto State,  the apex court affirmed Ahmed Aliyu as the duly elected governor of Sokoto State.

Reading the lead judgment, Justice Tijani Abubakar dismissed the appeal by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and its governorship candidate, Saidu Umar, agreeing with the reasoning of the lower court.

On Taraba state, The Supreme Court upheld the election of Agbu Kefas as Taraba State governor.

Reading the lead judgment, Justice Lawal Garba dismissed the appeal by the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP and its governorship candidate, Yahaya Sani for filing an incomplete record of appeal.

The Supreme Court also dismissed an appeal by the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Tonye Cole challenging the Victory of Siminalayi Fubara in the Rivers state governorship election.

Cole asked the apex court to sack Fubara as governor of the state, alleging that the election was marred by irregularities and that Fubara did not validly resign his previous position as required by the law, before the election.

Both the tribunal and the Court of Appeal dismissed his case for want of merit.

Reading the lead judgment, Justice Ibrahim Saulawa dismissed the appeal by Cole and affirmed Fubara as the duly elected governor of Rivers State.
