Supreme Court upholds former Plateau Governor’s  conviction

Nigeria’s Supreme Court  has affirmed the conviction of the former Governor of Plateau State in North Central Nigeria, Joshua Dariye for fourteen years.
The court, however dismissed the criminal misappropriation of funds charge which earned him two years jail term.
Delivering the judgment in an appeal filed by the former Governor, Justice Helen Ogunwumiju held that the court of appeal and the lower court of were right in their findings on the criminal breach of trust filed against the former governor under the Nigerian laws.
Justice Ogunwumiju, in the judgement, disagreed with the two lower courts on the misappropriation of funds and subsequently  dismissed the charge.
It would be noted that Justice Adebukola Banjoko had in 2018 sentenced the  former Governor to fourteen years imprisonment for  criminal bridge of trust, but was reduced to ten years by the court of appeal.
The two years imprisonment imposed in the former governor in the charges of miss appropriation of funds was also reduced to one year by the Appellate Court.
