The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has launched a N2 billion appeal fund for the construction of its headquarters building in Abuja, Nigeria.
The National President of SWAN, Isaiah Benjamin, unveiled the appeal fund during the celebration of the association’s 60th anniversary on Friday at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
Benjamin welcomed guests and acknowledged the efforts of SWAN members over the years, saying a 60-year-old man has come of age and would require a befitting place of his own.

“For six decades, SWAN has stood tall as the unifying voice of Nigerian sports, shaping narratives, chronicling moments of glory and heartbreak. Also, amplifying the stories of athletes, administrators, and communities whose passion continues to define our nation’s sporting identity,” Benjamin said.

Benjamin noted that the celebration of SWAN’s diamond jubilee was not just a commemoration of longevity but a reaffirmation of purpose.
“It reminds us that sports journalism is not merely about reporting results, but about building bridges between athletes and fans, between policy and performance, and between generations of Nigerians,” he added.
“But for an organisation that has lived for 60 years, it is only befitting that it has a place of its own. So, I appeal to you to support our initiative to build a SWAN house in Abuja.”
SWAN was established in 1964 and turned 60 in 2024, but the celebration of its diamond jubilee was shifted to 2025.
