Open Table Tennis Championship Commences In Osun State
No fewer than 17 states of Nigeria and 250 players have arrived Otan-Ayegbaju, headquarters of Boluwaduro Local Government Area in Osun State, for an open table tennis championship competition.
The players which are drawn from 17 States across the country commenced the competition sponsored by the Osun State Chairman of the Table Tennis Association, Ayo Alabi.
“I want to keep the legacy of my parent alive and this is the best way I feel I can do it. I want to put my town, Otan-Ayegbaju on the international map, this initiative will help do that,” speaking at the opening game event, Alabi said.
“This competition is a means of getting talented youths together which will make them mingle and relate by building destiny relationships in sport. Most of these youths need motivation in the sport to get them to showcase their talent to the world.”
“With this competition, they have the opportunity to be known across the world this programme is televised and sports lovers across the country are watching to scout for players,” Alabi added.
The Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Sports Development, Vincent Akinbami said:
”Government will support this kind of competition so that we can get talent to replace the state and country at international competition.”
