The Walt Disney Company, in association with Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) FilmOne Entertainment, officially announced on Tuesday that Nigeria will host the official African premiere of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The Marvel Black Panther: Wakanda fans will see some familiar faces as well as new characters, according to the production studio.

This was disclosed in a statement by Moses Babatope and Kene Okwuosa, Co-founders of FilmOne Entertainment, official distributors of the movie in English West African territories, said “Being instrumental to the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in West Africa is a proud achievement and a milestone for us and the entire FilmOne team, it will be celebrated for a long time. We are excited and fully committed to working with The Walt Disney Company to deliver a grand African premiere, even as we channel all our arsenal towards realizing a momentous box-office performance for the title.”

Chioma Ude, the founder of AFRIFF, said: “We are excited and proud to be a part of the premiere of this milestone film here in Africa. This is huge for the continent of Africa as it symbolises to us further bridging the gaps between the global film industries.”

 

Afrobeats superstar, Temilade Openiyi ‘Tems’ also featured on the soundtrack of Marvel Studios Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ as she sang a cover of Bob Marley’s No, Woman No Cry with a Kendrick Lamar sample of Alright.

The tracklist which is a highly anticipated affair had been released on Wednesday the 2nd of November spotting several African acts with a number of Nigerian stars. According to the tracklist, there’s a total of 19 records and Burna Boy is credited as the performer of the second track; “Alone” while Tems is credited on the next track “No Woman, No Cry”. Fireboy DML is on track 9; “Coming Back For You”. CKay is featured alongside English singer, Pink Pantheress, while Rema is credited on two tracks; Wake Up with Nigerian producer and singer, Bloody Civilian, and on Pantera with Mexican rapper, Aleman.

 

Fast-rising Nigerian American rapper, Tobe Nwigwe and spouse and singer, Fat Nwigwe “They Want It But, No.” The Black Panther soundtrack tracklist is a highly rated project that has in the past featured the likes of American rapper, Kendrick Lamar and SZA. This is the first tracklist of the movie series to feature Nigerians and Africans on this level. The album tracklist also features African acts such as Busiswa, Kamo Mphela, DBN Gogo and more.

The sequel titled ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘  has most cast members retained.

Daniel Kaluuya, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, and Angela Bassett will all feature.

But as expected, lead actor Chadwick Boseman who died in 2020 following a secret battle with cancer is the only missing face.

He played the role of the lead character T’Challa.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘ will be released in the summer of 2022.

Kevin Feige , Marvel Studios Chief, explained that the upcoming production would solely focus on other cast members; but would be a ‘special tribute to Chadwick.’

It’s clearly very emotional without Chad. But everyone is also very excited to bring the world of Wakanda back to the public and back to the fans. We’re going to do it in a way that would make Chad proud,” Feige told the press.

The first installment Black Panther enjoyed smashing success globally in 2018, netting  $1.34 billion.

It remains Marvel’s highest grossing non-“Avengers” movie of all time.
