The Islamic Scholars and Experts Community Initiative for Development in Nigeria (ISECID) has expressed deep sadness and concern over the devastating fuel tanker explosion in Niger State, which resulted in the loss of over 100 lives and injured many others.

In a statement, ISECID’s National Coordinator, Bashir Ahmad Usman Yankuzo, extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the government, and people of Niger State.

Yankuzo emphasized the need for attitudinal change in Nigerian communities, citing the incident as a tragic reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety and well-being over short-term gains.

ISECID noted that the Niger State tanker explosion is part of a disturbing trend of reckless and impulsive behavior in Nigeria, which has also led to tragic incidents in Jigawa State, Ibadan, Abuja, and Anambra State.

The organization called on Nigerians to reflect on their attitudes and behaviors, making a conscious effort to prioritize safety, responsibility, and foresight in their daily lives.

The organization also commended the efforts of the Governor of Niger State, the fire service, and other relevant agencies that worked to contain the inferno.

The Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) has also mourned the victims of the tanker explosion, describing the incident as “sad and tragic.”
