President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed the relevant agencies responsible for enforcing traffic regulations to implement measures aimed at preventing the recurrence of fuel tanker explosions across the nation.
President Tinubu gave the directive in a statement issued on Sunday by the Presidential Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, to commiserate with tanker explosion victims in Enugu State.
The President also called for caution and adherence to safety measures among road users, particularly fuel tanker operators to forestall such occurrences.
Condoling the the government and the people of Enugu state over the fuel tanker explosion, which resulted in the loss of lives on Saturday, the Nigerian leader commiserated with the families of the deceased and the injured.
He prays for the repose of the souls of the departed and quick recovery for those receiving medical treatment.
The fuel tanker reportedly spiralled out of control and burst into flames while navigating the Ugwu-Onyeama section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
Reports say, the tanker explosion incident, happened at about 11 a.m. in Ugwu Onyeama, along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Enugu State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Sunday morning confirmed that 18 people were burnt to death on Saturday when a petrol tanker exploded in Enugu State, south-east Nigeria.
