Tanzanian President, Samia Suluhu Hassan on Wednesday reaffirmed her country’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Mozambique in promoting development, regional unity, and the well-being of their people.

As a part of her visit to the Southern African country, Hassan attended a celebration held at Machava Stadium in the Mozambican capital of Maputo to mark the 50th anniversary of Mozambique’s independence.

The Tanzanian president hailed the longstanding historical and liberation-era ties between the two countries, which extend beyond geographical proximity.

She recalled Tanzania’s support for Mozambique’s independence struggle, despite facing its own economic and security challenges at the time.

Hassan also praised Mozambique’s progress over the past five decades in areas such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure, crediting the country’s inclusive vision for building a hopeful society.

To deepen economic ties, she announced that, “Tanzania’s national carrier, Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL), plans to launch direct flights between the two countries later this year.”
