The new Ambassador of Tanzania to Nigeria, Mr. Selestine Gervas Kakele, has stated his commitment to fostering the bilateral relations between the Tanzania High Commission and Voice of Nigeria, VON.

Mr. Kakele made this known when he received staff of Voice of Nigeria, who are students of the Swahili language, at the High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria.

He said that, going by the revised foreign policy of the government of Tanzania, it is paramount to promote the Swahili language and culture across Africa and the world.

“Let me take this opportunity to reiterate our commitment, my personal commitment, but also in collaboration with the team of the high commission here that we leave no stone unturned, I will make sure that we continue with the Swahili classes through the VON.” He said

Mr. Kakele gave the assurance that he was open to meeting with the management of VON and addressing any hurdles that may arise in the drive to boost the Swahili language broadcast service in VON.

“The class in VON speaks volumes to our commitment to promote Kiswahili as a language. As you know, Kiswahili is a language that keeps on growing.” He said

He also reiterated the commission’s commitment to celebrate this year’s Swahili language day on the 7th of July, in collaboration with other East African countries and invited the Swahili students from VON to be a part of the celebration.
