Tarabans in the diaspora urged to join peacebuilding process

The people of Taraba State North East Nigeria living in the Diaspora have been called upon to join the peacebuilding process of the government to engender development.

The Governor of the State Mr Darius Ishaku made the call at an event known as Taraba Day organised by Tarabans living in Abuja.

Voice of Nigeria reports that the event has the theme “Taraba For All.

Taraba Day is an annual event organized by Tarabans who are residents in the nation’s capital with the objective of bringing them together to foster unity and development.

Governor Darius Ishaku at the event, represented by the Commissioner of culture and Tourism Mr Joseph Obadiah, urged the people of the State to forget their minor differences and pursue oneness for development.

The governor challenged people of Taraba State to consider the richness of Multi – Cultural diversity as a source of unity, peace and development.

“I encourage you who are in diaspora to join the crusade to have a state where all can live in peace and harmony, irrespective of regional, ethnic, religious and political pursuit”

Also, former governorship candidate Mr. David Sabo Kente challenged Taraba political leaders to do more in uniting people and eschew bitterness and political rancho.

He called on the Nigerian government to hasten the appointment of a Minister from the state to fill the vacuum created by removal of the former Minister of Power.

“Eschew this excessive bickering among ourselves and try to come together once in a while to celebrate ourselves.”

“We may have our Political Parties separately, we have our religions different, we come from different regions, from different local governments but God in his infinite mercies has decided to put us together in one geographical expression call Taraba. Therefore it is my fervent hope ad wish that we should have a united Taraba.” Kente said.

A senator from the state, Yusuf Abubakar said, “Taraba is blessed with great potentials calling for senergy amongst the political leaders to harness them.”

The Chairman Taraba Residents in Abuja Mr. Daniel Likam said, “the meeting is designed to create an atmosphere where political leaders from Taraba meet with the led in Abuja to peacefully discuss the socio-economic development of the state and chart a way forward.”

Guest speakers, Sheik Abdullahi Bala and Reverend Joseph Ajaver called for decorum amongst Taraba political leaders, focused leadership and patriotism for progress in the North Eastern State.

Several speakers including some members of the National Assembly from the state made contributions at the event.
