Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has described the performance of Local Government Chairmen in the State as astounding.
The commendation comes as the tenure of the elected Chairmen and Councilors expired on Wednesday, December 8, 2021.
The outgoing council chairmen and their councilors were sworn into office on December 9, 2019, after emerging winners in the council polls. Their tenure was for a two years period.
“Your services to the people and the State are commendable. PDP and my humble self are proud of you. You’ll go down in history as part of the success story of our social re-engineering process in Adamawa especially our rural and urban renewal drive” Governor Fintiri said.
He commended them for identifying with the culture of good governance already exemplified by his administration. He also applauded them for strengthening democracy in the State.
Governor Fintiri, therefore directed that the council chairmen hand over to the Heads of Service in their respective councils, who will take charge of administrative duties, pending the appointment of caretaker Committees.
He said with the expiration of the two-year statutory tenure of all local government chairmen, councilors and appointed secretaries and others in the state, it was expected that newly elected officials would resume office after the next elections to be scheduled and conducted by the State Independent Electoral Commission.
The Adamawa State Governor said all affected officials were legally required to vacate their offices by the close of business on Wednesday, December 8, 2021.
Governor Fintiri gave assurances that his administration would continue to give priority to staff salaries and welfare, as well as projects execution across the State, which were beneficial to the people and government.
He, therefore, challenged Heads of Service to be upright in their dealings as career civil servants.
