The Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Tetfund, and the University of Calabar, UNICAL, have reiterated the resolve to strengthen its partnership for a conducive learning environment.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Florence Obi, and the officials of the agency led by Mr. Oye Abdul-Rasheed reached the agreement after a meeting held with the authority of the tertiary institution.

Professor Obi, who urged Tetfund to increase its presence in the institution by funding more projects, reiterated her resolve to synergize with the agency to achieve greater impact.
Obi said, “under my leadership, we intend to have a robust, closer and lively relationship with your agency because we need to see more impact, more infrastructure sponsored by Tetfund in this university”.
“Over the years, this university has had to grapple with infrastructural challenges, which resulted in many shortcomings that we do not want to happen again. Recent events, I mean, the hijack of last year’s protest by hoodlums have negatively impacted existing infrastructure as well,” she noted.
She expressed the hope that with the visit of Tetfund officials to the university would enable management of the institution to adhere to best practices, noting “this interactive process will also be a learning curve for us as a new administration and over all be beneficial to the institution”.
Earlier, Mr. Abdul-Rasheed, the team leader, said that they were in the institution to audit past and ongoing projects sponsored by the agency.
He explained that the team would inspect projects executed from 2012 to date, saying “this is not a witch-hunt rather our visit is aimed at promoting knowledgeable, effective and sound mode of Tetfund operations”.
The Tetfund team are in the University of Calabar on a two-day working visit.
