Tottenham Appoints Nuno Espirito Santo As Head Coach
Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Nuno Espirito Santo as their new head coach after the Portuguese signed a two-year deal with the north London club, bringing an end to their long-running search for Jose Mourinho’s successor.
Spurs earlier held talks with Antonio Conte, Mauricio Pochettino, Paulo Fonseca, Gennaro Gattuso and Julen Lopetegui since the end of the Premier League season, but the former Wolves coach emerged as the leading contender.
“When you have a squad with quality and talent, we want to make the fans proud and enjoy,” Nuno said on Tottenham’s official website. “It’s an enormous pleasure and honour [to be here], there’s joy and I’m happy and looking forward to starting work.”
“We don’t have any days to lose and we must start working immediately as pre-season starts in a few days.”
The Portuguese brought Wolves into the Premier League in 2018 and established them as a top-half side, twice finishing seventh and once qualifying for the Europa League, until last season, when they ended 13th.
