Tourism Association Urges Government To Prioritize Economic Growth
By Asma'u Halilu, Kaduna
The Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) has called upon the Kaduna State government to prioritize the advancement of the tourism and hospitality sector as a means to stimulate economic growth and development within the state.
FTAN State Coordinator, Tobi Bernard Thomas emphasized the need for government to develop a tourism master plan in the state.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Kaduna, Thomas disclosed that Kaduna state is richly endowed with natural and cultural resources, which include the famous Zazzau palace, Kagoro Hills, Kamuku National Park, Gurara Falls, Gamji Park, and the ancient Nok culture among others.
According to him, these potentials remain largely untapped due to lack of infrastructure, funding and regulatory support.
Thomas also noted that the establishment of a tourism development fund will provide financial support to tourism-related businesses and projects to promote innovations and entrepreneurship.
He further mentioned that the development and maintenance of tourism infrastructure, which includes roads, hotels, and recreational facilities are necessary for economic growth.
In his words, “Enhanced security will ensure a safe and secured environment for tourists and tourism businesses, tourist stakeholders in the state should also adopt modern technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, to improve operational efficiency and enhance customer satisfaction.”
Kaduna FTAN therefore recommends the establishment of a committee with stakeholder inclusion, comprising representatives from government Agencies, tourism industry players, local communities, private sector Investors and civil society organizations.
“By working together, these stakeholders can help drive economic growth and development in Kaduna state through sustainable tourism development.
“We are confident that with the implementation of these measures, the state can become a hub for tourism and economic growth,” Thomas stressed.
